Vinyl vs James Hardie — which is better?
James Hardie is more durable (50+ year lifespan vs 25–30 for vinyl), fire-resistant, won't fade, looks more upscale. But it costs 2–3× more and is heavier (harder/more expensive to install). For most NYC homes, premium vinyl (CertainTeed Monogram or Mastic Carvedwood) is the best value.
Can you install siding over existing siding?
